Tom Sachs is a sculptor who is best known for his elaborate recreations of various modern icons, including the Apollo 11 Lunar Excursion Module.

In the summer of 2021, he launched an NFT collection called the Rocket Factory. For the project, individuals had to acquire three separate component NFTs and assemble them into a single Rocket NFT. Once this was accomplished, the digital rocket was made into a real physical sculpture at Sachs’ studio and launched. The rocket and a video of the launch were then sent to the NFT owner. The innovative project reshaped how art is produced and distributed, and it earned millions in sales.
